CHALLENGES Overloaded Email Servers Email servers are constantly
overloaded with the growing volume of email, the increasing size
and volume of attachments, and the number of redundant copies
being propagated by mail.
General
Overload The overloaded mail servers cause other systems to
overload. For example, the daily backups take longer, and beyond
a certain size in the mail store, can slow down considerably.
The data recovery also suffers the same problem, and will be exacerbated
by incomplete backups. Access for remote users also becomes problematic,
especially with large attachments. As problems propagate, the
administration overhead rises disproportionately.
Expensive
Fixes When the mail-store gets too unwieldy, the typical approach
of getting another email server gets very expensive. Each mail
server requires its own hardware and software; email licenses;
backup and recovery software; spam, anti-virus and content filter
software, and so on. Maintenance fees are extra. In addition,
